History of Continental

     How is it different than American Trap?  In American Trap the birds are launched in the low 40-mph’s.  The birds move both left and right only, not up and down.  Continental, which is a form of International / Olympic Trap launches birds in the low 60-mph’s.  The birds will move further left and right than American Trap and will also move up and down from a few feet above the trap house to highflyers.

   Continental is fired from the 17-yard line, same as International Trap.  While American Trap singles and handicap has the shooter load one shell for one bird, Continental allows the shooter to load two shells to fire at one bird.  After each shot in Continental the shooter will move to their next post rather than shooting five shots at each post prior to moving in American.

What equipment is best for Continental?  Your best choice is a 12- ga over/under choked around modified for your first shot and full for the second.  I like 1oz. loads around 1,200 fps shot size 7 1/2.

At the Boise Gun Club, we offer both a Continental and International league.  The difference is that in International you only get one shot per bird while in Continental you get two.  We run two, five month leagues a year.  Fee’s per league are around $35 plus the cost of your birds.  All fee’s go to awards which are custom belt buckles.
