Idaho Shotgun Sports Museum

Preserving the Legacy of Shotgun Sports in Idaho

In 2018, a visionary project was launched to create a museum dedicated to the rich history of shotgun shooting sports in Idaho. The goal: to honor the traditions of hunting and clay target sports while showcasing their deep roots in local communities across the state.

From Vision to Reality

Thanks to a generous $10,000 kick-off grant from Richard Wehren—matched enthusiastically by local shooters—planning began for the museum’s location and construction. Despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and material shortages (especially concrete), progress continued. Once the foundation slab was poured, a 40x40-foot steel building was erected, wired, and transformed with painted walls and shelving. Exhibits soon followed.

Grand Opening

The Idaho Shotgun Sports Museum officially opened to the public during the PITA State Shoot in June 2025, hosted at the Boise Gun Club.

A Treasure Trove of Knowledge

At the heart of the museum is the Reference Library, featuring:

  • Over 130 books
  • Thousands of printed pages in 60+ binders
  • Topics ranging from shotgun history, trapshooting, skeet, sporting clays, bird hunting, and tournament results

The library also celebrates legendary outdoor writers like Cory Ford, Dan Sisson, Jimmy Robinson, Gene Hill, Gordon MacQuarie, Patrick McManus, William Tapply, Zack Taylor, Ted Trueblood, Ed Zern, and many more.

*A copier is available for visitors to make copies of articles, tips, reloading guides, and other valuable resources.  We ask that you do not remove items or media from the museum. *

Exhibits That Tell a Story

The museum showcases an impressive collection of historical items, including:

  • Vintage shotguns and reloading equipment
  • Trap machines and duck decoys
  • Shooting pins, patches, sweaters, trophies, and programs
  • Photos, scrapbooks, shell boxes, targets, and more

Help Us Grow
